Missing Something Podcast

Penny recently had me as a guest on her podcast, which was a blast. We discussed blogging, podcasting, what it's like putting your innermost feelings out there for the public, and a variety of other things, including my crazy plan to get Barman Ben to fall for me. We chatted for an hour, which Penny whittled down to, well, nearly 48 minutes. Long, but very off-the-cuff and (I like to think) entertaining.

For anyone curious, the podcast can be found here.

Your plan is: write a fictional book based on you and him getting involved in a romance, get it published, give it to him, run away, and never go there again? Great plan! :-p Way to make Dashing Bartender think that you're insane.

Although, of course, the romantic novel ending would be for him to track you down using clues that you'd cunningly left him in the book, and for him to turn up one day on your doorstep in exactly the way that the bartender character in your book does and recite a line from the book where your character and his character meet in similar circumstances and, then you and he end up with an even better and more fulfilling romance than you had imagined in your book... and then somebody makes a film about the true story ;-)

On openness: I'm very much with you there, Dolly: if there is no openness, there is no point. Actually, I tend to find openness to be very attractive, and there is no greater detractor than a lack of openness.

I kind of like Dolly's voice. And to my amazement, I understand nearly everything.

I'm not hearing or reading anything that makes me think "Dolly 2.0". Is there going to be any of that?

Hey Dolly,

It's nice to hear your voice, I think it gives me a much better idea of who you are. You sound unsure of yourself to a point where it's endearing and kind of cute.

My only comment is that writing him a story is a lot like that scene in Napoleon Dynamite where Napoleon draws a portrait of the girl he wants to ask to the dance. Think about that.

Good luck and I wish you the courage to continue.

Ok so now we've got voice. Great. Since I'm male and more visual, I'm still gonna need some pictures Dolly.

Very interesting discussion. Dolly sounds like the happiest depressed person I have ever heard...have to disagree w/shambles: I don't think she sounds unsure of herself at all.

Rick,
You mean the one message I sent saying I was at the bar that you frequent? You spend so much time there, I was just surprised not to run into you. I hope you didn't read anything into it.
